Why We Tell You Our Books Were Made With AI

Why we tell you our books were made with AI - Happy Little Pages

Every listing in this shop says it. Every book says it on the licence page. We will say it here too: the illustrations and text in these books were made with the help of generative AI tools, then reviewed, chosen, edited and arranged by a human before anything was published.

Plenty of shops selling the same kind of thing do not mention it. We would rather you knew.

What that actually means

Every illustration is original and was generated from written descriptions alone. No existing coloring book, drawing or photograph was copied, traced, or used as an image reference. Nothing here is scraped from another artist's portfolio and run through a filter.

The folk tales themselves are public domain — Aesop, Afanasyev, the Panchatantra, the One Thousand and One Nights. Those stories belong to everybody. The retellings and the artwork are ours.

What a human still does

A lot, as it turns out. Generating an image is the fast part. Then somebody has to decide which of twenty versions is right, notice that the lines went too thin for a four-year-old, spot the page where a character's face went strange, cut the pages that do not work, write the sentence on each affirmation page, order the book so it builds, and read the whole thing aloud to check it does not trip your tongue.

Roughly one page in five gets thrown away. That judgement is the product.

Why say so

Two reasons. The first is simple: you are spending your money and it is your right to know what you are buying.

The second is that we would rather be the shop that told you than the shop you found out about. Trust is worth more than a sale, and a parent who feels misled does not come back.

What you can do with the books

Print them as often as you like for your own family or your own classroom. Colour them, frame them, photograph the finished pages and share them anywhere. What you cannot do is resell or redistribute the files. Each book's licence has the full terms.

If any of this changes how you feel about buying, that is a completely fair response, and we would rather you made that decision with the facts. More about who we are.
